How to Fix Tesla Theater Not Working

A software bug is the most common reason for the Tesla Theater not working. Software bugs can cause the Tesla Theater app to crash or prevent the app from launching altogether. 1. Software bug

Solution 1: Update your Tesla’s software.

Whenever my Tesla Theater stops working because of a bug issue, I first confirm if there’s any latest software update and manually update it.

To update your Tesla’s software to fix a software bug, follow these steps:

  1. Park your Tesla in a safe location.
  2. Connect your Tesla to Wi-Fi.
  3. Touch the Controls icon on the touchscreen.
  4. Touch Software.
  5. Touch Software Update
  6. If there is a software update available, touch Download.
  7. Once the software update has been downloaded, touch Install.
  8. Your Tesla will start to install the software update. It will take a few minutes for the update to install.

Once the software update is installed, your Tesla will restart. After your Tesla has restarted, try to use the Tesla Theater again. If the bug is fixed, you should be able to watch movies and TV shows without problems.

If the bug is not fixed, you may need to try a different solution, such as restarting your Tesla or reporting the bug to Tesla.

If the issue persists after updating your Tesla’s software, try restarting your Tesla. Before you start the process, you need to park your Tesla in a safe location. You shouldn’t do this while driving because the screen usually goes blank during the process, and you won’t be getting those instructions or warnings when driving.

Solution 3: Report the bug to Tesla.

If you’re encountering a bug you can’t fix yourself, report it to Tesla. Tesla engineers will investigate the bug and try to fix it immediately.

To report a software bug to Tesla, you can use the following methods:

2. Poor internet connection

Solution 1: Check your internet speed.

If your internet speed is slow, it can cause the Tesla Theater to malfunction. To check your internet speed in your Tesla, follow these steps:

  1. Park your Tesla in a safe location.
  2. Touch the Controls icon on the touchscreen.
  3. Touch Software.
  4. Touch Additional Vehicle Information.
  5. Touch Connectivity.
  6. Scroll down and look for Internet speed.
  7. Your Tesla will display your current internet download and upload speeds.

Whenever I check and my internet speed is slow, I try to improve it by restarting my router, moving my Tesla closer to my router, or trying a different Wi-Fi network. Sometimes, the issue might be with my internet service provider, so I might have to contact them for assistance.

Solution 2: Restart your router.

To restart your router as a solution for a poor internet connection, follow these steps:

  1. Unplug the power cable from your router, or just turn it off by pressing the power button.
  2. Wait for at least 15 seconds before plugging the router back in, or press the power button again to turn it back on.
  3. Once the router is plugged back in or the power button is pressed to turn it on, wait for the power lights to turn back on.
  4. Once the power lights are back on, your router has restarted.

After you’ve restarted the router, check your internet connection to see if it has improved.

Solution 3: Move your Tesla closer to your router.

If your Tesla is far away from your router, the signal may be weak. Moving your Tesla closer to your router can improve the signal strength. If possible, park your Tesla within 30 feet of the router. If you cannot, try to move it as close as possible. You may also want to consider using a Wi-Fi extender or mesh system to boost the signal strength.

Solution 4: Try a different Wi-Fi network.

If you’re having problems connecting to your home Wi-Fi network, try connecting to a different Wi-Fi network, such as a public Wi-Fi network, or maybe by using your phone as a hotspot.

3. Incompatible or corrupted media files

Solution 1: Try playing the media file on a different device.

  1. Connect the storage device with the media file to your computer or another device.

Whenever my media file is corrupted, I have four different methods I use to repair it, depending on my mood. Here’s how to fix corrupted MP4 video files:

Method 1: Use VLC Media Player
  1. Right-click on the corrupted video file and change the extension to.avi.
  2. Open VLC Media Player and go to Tools > Preferences > Inputs & Codecs.
  3. Under Damaged or incomplete AVI file, select Always fix.
  4. Click Save and restart VLC Media Player.
  5. Try playing the video again.
Method 2: Increase the cache value in VLC Media Player
  1. Open VLC Media Player and go to Tools > Preferences > Inputs & Codecs.
  2. Scroll down to the Advanced section and find the cache value.
  3. Increase the cache value by a few milliseconds.
  4. Click Save and restart VLC Media Player.
  5. Try playing the video again.
Method 3: Change the video output module in VLC Media Player
  1. Open VLC Media Player and go to Tools > Preferences > Video.
  2. In the Output drop-down menu, select DirectX video output.
  3. Click Save and restart VLC Media Player.
  4. Try playing the video again.
Method 4: Use Wondershare Repairit.
  1. Download and install Wondershare Repairit.
  2. Open Wondershare Repairit and click the Add button.
  3. Select the corrupted video file.
  4. Click Repair.
  5. Once the video has been repaired, click save.

Solution 4: Check the media type and convert the media file.

Tesla only supports certain types of media files, such as MP4, MP3, AAC, MPEG, AVI, MOV, MKV, and WMV. If the media file you are trying to play is not supported, Tesla will not be able to play it.

If the media file you are trying to play is not supported, you can try converting it to a supported format. There are many free and paid media converters available online.

Here’s how to check the media type:

  1. Touch the media icon on the touchscreen.
  2. Touch the Media Library tab.
  3. Touch the media file you want to check the type of.
  4. Scroll down to the information section.
  5. The media type will be listed under Type.

To convert a media file to a supported format for Tesla, I usually use a media converter like Zamzar, Online Converter, FreeConvert, CloudConvert, and Convertio. There are many different media converters available online, so you can choose the one that best suits your needs.

Here are some steps on how to convert a media file using a free online media converter:

  1. Go to a free online media converter website.
  2. Upload the media file you want to convert.
  3. Select the output format you want to convert the file to.
  4. Click the “Convert” button.
  5. Once the conversion is complete, download the converted file.
  6. After converting the media file to a Tesla-compatible format, transfer it to your Tesla and play it.

If you are using a paid media converter, the steps may vary depending on the converter you are using. However, most paid media converters are easy to use and offer a wide range of features, such as batch conversion and support for multiple output formats.

Solution 5: Delete the media file.

If the media file is corrupted or damaged, Tesla may not be able to play it. Try deleting the media file and downloading it again.

Here are the steps on how to delete a media file on Tesla:

  1. Touch the media icon on the touchscreen.
  2. Touch the Library tab.
  3. Touch the media file you want to delete.
  4. Touch the delete button.
  5. Confirm that you want to delete the media file by touching Delete.

4. Full storage

Solution 1: Delete unused media files.

Tesla stores media files, such as music, videos, and photos, on its internal storage. If you have a lot of media files stored on your Tesla, deleting the ones you don’t use can free up a significant amount of space.

To delete unused media files on Tesla, follow these steps:

  1. Touch the media icon on the touchscreen.
  2. Touch the Library tab.
  3. Touch the type of media file you want to delete, such as music, videos, or photos.
  4. Touch and hold the media file you want to delete.
  5. Tap the other media files you want to delete.
  6. Touch the delete button.
  7. Touch Delete to confirm.

You can also delete all unused media files at once by following these steps:

  1. Touch the Controls icon on the touchscreen.
  2. Touch Software.
  3. Touch More options.
  4. Touch Storage.
  5. Touch Media.
  6. Touch Delete all unused media.
  7. Touch Delete to confirm.

Solution 2: Move media files to an external storage device.

Tesla supports the use of USB drives and SD cards for external storage. If you have a lot of media files, you can move them to an external storage device to free up space on your Tesla’s internal storage.

To move media files to an external storage device to free up space on your Tesla’s internal storage, follow these steps:

  1. Insert a USB drive or SD card into one of your Tesla’s USB ports.
  2. Touch the media icon on the touchscreen.
  3. Touch the Library tab.

  3. Touch the Library tab.
  4. Touch and hold one of the media files you want to move.
  5. Tap the other media files you want to move.
  6. Touch the More icon (three dots).
  7. Touch Move.
  8. Touch the external storage device you want to move the media files to.
  9. Touch Move.

The media files will be moved to the external storage device.

Solution 3: Delete Sentry Mode and Dashcam footage.

Tesla’s Sentry Mode and Dashcam features continuously record video footage of your surroundings. This footage can take up a lot of storage space over time. If you don’t need to keep all of the footage, you can delete it to free up space.

To delete Sentry Mode and Dashcam footage to free up storage space on your Tesla, follow these steps:

  1. Touch the Controls icon on the touchscreen.
  2. Touch Safety.
  3. Touch Delete Dashcam Clips.
  4. Touch Delete.

This will delete all of the Sentry Mode and Dashcam footage that is stored on your Tesla.

You can also delete individual Sentry Mode and Dashcam clips by following these steps:

  1. Touch the Controls icon on the touchscreen.
  2. Touch Safety.
  3. Touch Dashcam.
  4. Touch the clip you want to delete.
  5. Touch the Delete icon.
  6. Touch Delete.

Solution 4: Format your Tesla’s internal storage

Formatting your Tesla’s internal storage will erase all of the data on it, including your media files, apps, and games. This should be a last resort, but it can be an effective way to free up space if you’re having trouble doing so otherwise.

To format your Tesla’s internal storage, follow these steps:

  1. Touch the Controls icon on the touchscreen.
  2. Touch Software.
  3. Touch More options.
  4. Touch Format.
  5. Confirm that you want to format your Tesla’s internal storage by touching Format.

Formatting your Tesla’s internal storage will take a few minutes. Once it’s finished, your Tesla’s internal storage will be empty, and you can start adding new files to it.
